The Impact of Ultra-Low-Cost-Carrier Competition on Airfare

This econometric study explores the impact of the presence of ultra-low-cost-carriers (ULCC), a newly defined classification of airline carriers, on the average fare in an airline market. The analysis uses panel data from the U.S. Department of Transportation from 2011-2017 and a fixed-effects regression model to estimate the effects of the presence of these ULCCs on average market fare.fare in each market, compared to low-cost carriers (LCC) and legacy carriers.

The Impact of Uber on Taxi Fare

In this econometric study, the impact of Uber, a ride-sharing platform, on the average taxi fare in various markets is explored. By collecting taxi fares for hundreds of markets across the U.S. Roselyn was able to control for regional differences and population.  Empirical results suggest that the availability of the Uber platform reduces the average 10-mile ride by $2.35.
